Hot Summer Days

What better way to spend a heat wave day, then out on the stream with Mother Nature and some new toys. My cool buddy from California BigWilly sent me a gift. He is a talented Rodsmith! He sent me my first 3wt Fly rod 7ft crazy medium LIGHT action! I paired it with a 3wt Orvis battenkill reel and WF floating line. I also just got a brand new pair of the Silver Sonic Waders.
So now that you know about the new toys you can understand why even in this "HEAT WAVE" I still had to get out on the water and try it all out ASAP!

I went to the Diverting outlet at 830AM but water level was low and had no luck, doesn't matter it didn't stop me on trying out the new rig for the first time. I was more focused on the casting abilities of the rod and new line. I must admit I was shocked by how well it handled for being so small. Water temp was 68. I got one really nice hit on my fly about 3ft away from where I was standing in the water and that was it.

I decided to drive up to Brewster and try my setup over there. The day was getting hotter. I soon got to sodom rd and saw about 8 cars. So it goes to show I'm not the only idiot out in this heat! I kept driving to "Brady's bend" to just look at the water and judge the flow. I could see one active rainbow but he could see me as well so I moved further down stream towards the bridge by the prescient. I hid in the shade under the bridge and continued practicing my casting on the new rig (now I'm liking it) I finally hook into a nice little 12in Rainbow. I didn't take him out the water because it was so hot so I just took pic's in the net and released him right away due to the weather.

Since I achieved my goal for the day Successfully, which was try out the new Toys, I decided to get out of the heat and head home and help my family with there wants and needs. Hopefully fall comes soon so I can comfortably fish again.

Westbranch 6-23-13

Today I found sometime to get out to the streams and fly fish. Sun was beaming and it was beautiful out there. I tried a triple nymph rig with a lot of success. I had quite a couple of long distance releases

Its been a while

Its been a while!!! May 5th was the last time I made it to a reservoir, Life has kept me busy with Family, Work and whatever my wife needs me to do with the only free time i have. Summer is definitely here. When I got home my face and arms were RED.

Got out to beautiful Cross River today around 10:30AM (after work this morning) Water looked like glass. Of course as soon as I got on the water a small shower occurred but disappeared rapidly. It was really good to finally get out there and be with mother nature again. Not too long after I launched my bait reel started screaming and caught a nice size Smallmouth bass, after two yellow perch and two smallies i had to go home. I cant wait to get back out there!

Happy fathers day to all you fathers

Rods Found and returned

Today I drove up to Suny Purchase to Meet Larry. Larry is a Honest angler that found my 2 Trolling Fishing Rods at a boat launch. Two weeks ago I was trolling and as I was putting my boat away I got a phone call and totally forgot to take my rods from the site to my car. I showed up to the boat launch the next morning hoping they were still there but they were gone. I was so pissed off at myself. I looked around and there was a note under a rock that had Larrys phone number on it and it said I have your rods.
I called Larry and he and I made arrangements to meet up today. He is a "Class Act" he wouldnt even accept a reward. So it was my lucky day and I would like to say Thank you Larry.

After I got the Rods I decided to go Flyfishing over my East & West Branch. I got Three nice browns over all and one cool little video of one. I started fishing and forgot to put my SD Card in my GoPro so I didnt get footage of the first two fish but I went back to my car and got my spare SD card in the GoPro and I hit the same hole and caught another Beauty of a Brown!

Cinco de Mayo Weekend Fly Fishing

This past Cinco de Mayo I went out Fly fishing EB / WB  (coast to coast) and i was in search of brown trout and i found them. i had all kinds, small, medium, slightly medium and large. The large Brown had a yellow belly and a great fight It could have possibly been a wild trout? . It was great and i learned so much being out there. there is no school like experience. I still need a teacher but im getting by. i made some sick videos i hope everyone enjoys

Large trout above video

Bunch of cool frisky hungry Browns in above and below videos

Weather was great and water was close to perfect. Wish every outing was like this!

5lb Lake Trout

Was out on Kensico Reservoir trolling I lost one small brown when he jumped about 2ft out the water shaking. I continued to troll around. I soon saw my friend Joe and we spoke for about 1 minute and when I started trolling again the rod bent. I proceeded to record on my gopro and Joe recorded on his phone and sent me the footage. Later on I put together a nice video check it out.
22inch 5lb laker released to grow bigger, no fins clipped so it was most likely born in Kensico

2013 Lake Trout

Yesterday I went out late (1030am) i headed out to the Big K with dreams of large trout. I decided to troll because I would loose about 45min of time if i went up north to buy bait.
I get on the boat and figured out i forgot to bring my fish finder/depth finder. Oh well I went old school and depended on my memory and pure instincts. I started rowing and a bout an hour and a half later i got my first 2013 Lake trout on a Rapala F series. Had the Go pro so you know I made a video! enjoy.
